Shellie's Birth Story

Buyer Beware! It gets graphic below so don't read if you don't want to read about birthing babies!

It all started on Monday of the week she was born. I woke up at about 3:30 am to find a lot of blood. I was cramping really bad. It felt like the worst period of my life kind of cramps. I called my doctor once they opened up in the morning to ask about the bleeding and cramping. It was the only question she asked me at every one of my visits so I thought it important to call. The nurse told me it was because of intercourse and not to worry and that maybe I was in the beginning stages of labor. Okie dokie. Still hurting. The bleeding stopped that day but the cramping continued.

On Thursday afternoon I decided to call my doctor to find out what the after hours protocol was because I wasn't sure if she would even deliver my baby if it was after hours. I found out that she would if she was in town to do it. However she happened to be out of town until Sunday. That's okay because I wasn't scheduled for my induction until the following Friday. No way would she actually come before that because it would be too convienent for Mommy.

The moment I hung up the phone, I got my first contraction. Painless, so I wasn't really sure it was actually a contraction and not just the baby spinning in circles. They came every 15 minutes on the dot. I had spent the morning doing chores and Emry's nap time taping the upstairs for Devin to paint on the weekend. I swept and mopped the floor. Devin came home and I was distracting myself with chores, I wasn't sure I was still contracting. We took Em to the library to play for a little bit. Then went home and put him to bed. I laid down for a little bit and oh man was I contracting. I decided to take a bath to see if it got better. It didn't. We had started timing and I was 3 minutes apart at this point and they were starting to really hurt.

We called Grandma Anderson to come over and sleep since Em was already in bed. Thank goodness she was in town! We went to the Hospital and checked into the ER since I don't have prenatal care in Rock Springs. This is where we encountered the only not nice person thee entire hospital stay. Then I got transfered to Labor and Delivery. Sure enough I was contracting 2-3 minutes apart. The nurse checked and I was dilated to between a 3-4 and 80% effaced.

She was going to check me in two hours. If I progressed, I got to stay, if not they would send me home. I did not like that option! There was absolutely no way I wanted to go home having that strong of contractions that close together.

So I got up and walked a lot and tried to get her coming down. They I had a wave of dizziness so I laid down. About 20 minutes later she came back to check me and she said I was the same and she'd check me in another hour. When she went to check me she found some blood. She brushed it off and said it was due to her checking me.

Another hour went by and still hard contractions that seem to be getting a little closer together and lasting longer. She came back to check me and WOAH was there blood. She went to call the Doctor. He said to just moniter it. So that's what she did about every 30 minutes. It just got more and more bloody and I had only reached a 4 for sure. By this point babies heart beat started to jump around. The nurse kept coming in and saying baby is doing yucky. I'm thinking what the heck does that mean! She was referring to the heart. I didn't find that out until I saw the Doctor a few days later. Her heart rate was about 120 but would drop really low or disappear altogether.

So the next thing I know, I have three nurses walking in with their surgury garbs on and one says, he's gonna cut ya! Now imagine this being said with a arm gung ho kind of maneuver. Like a "hot diggity dog" kind of thing. Devin was on the phone with work and I was trying to tell him to get off. They took me away before he even hung up. I expected him to coming in and going to get dressed for it. Nope. He never showed up. They sent him back to the room.

So with no kiss or goodbye to my husband I had to go in and have an emergency C-section. I was freaking out and crying asking for Devin and they kept saying he's getting ready, they'll bring him in right before they start. Next thing I knew, I was being pushed around in my tummy. I'm all are they bring my husband cuz I KNOW he doesn't want to see whats going on down there now. Then they bothered to tell me that he wasn't allowed during and emergency one. Ok. So here I am laying there being torn apart and I didn't get to tell him I loved him if I died. Yes dramatic but it can totally happen. Thank goodness I had such an awesome and sweet anastesialogist that he talked me through the whole thing and kept my focus on the feelings in my arms. Oh!

So before all this happened I was able to get my epidural. It worked great and was only slightly painful to get done. Nothing compared to the contractions. It worked too good. Soon I couldn't breathe and I was throwing up. It made my chest, arms, neck, back all start going numb. It was so good that the left side of my face felt so funny and I couldn't open my left eye. It was too heavy. I called the nurse and told her I didn't feel good, then threw up. She gave me oxygyn and took the epidural off. She said we'd put it back on in about 90 minutes. Ok. Then the c-section thing happened

So they put the epidural back in and my whole body went numb again. So I had to concentrate on telling him when I was sick and when I could feel my hands. He kept having me squeeze his hands and pretty soon I couldnt do it with my right hand. I tried with all my might. I so didn't like that feeling. Then she started to cry!

She wasn't even out yet and she was crying. Then she was out and crying even more. After about 10 minutes they brought her over to me all cleaned up. I got to say I love you and give her a kiss then Shellie was gone. I'm not sure if I fell asleep at this point. I was so drained and emotionally I was crushed because I couldn't hold her, I didn't have my husband and I knew i was going to be in a lot more pain soon. They the Doctor asked if I was going to have my tubes tied. OH YA! I forgot about this and hadn't finished my research on what way we were going to go with birth control. We knew couldn't have anymore kids but we just hadn't made up our minds. It took a little bit but I said might as well. So he did that and then stapled me up.

Then I went to a recovery room where they gave me a TON of pain killers and waited for the epidural to wear off. They poked me all the way down till I could feel my toes normally. Then I got to go to my Recovery room to meet my baby.

So We went to the hospital about 10. I was checked first time at 11:20 next time at 1:45am then off and on until 5:30am when they decided to call the Doctor. They took me in for the C-section about 6:48 and she was born at 6:51. That's how fast everything went. They didn't even shave me down there, which you'd think they have to do for all surguries!

Okay so now it's 8:40 and I am in the room. They told me they were going to go grab my husband, that he was in the nursury. The longest 20 minutes later they came it. I asked for and her and he said he hadn't even gotten to hold her yet. What were those nurses doing???? So he held her and kissed her then brought her to me! She is so beautiful! I can't believe I have Children! not a kid but KIDS!! Yay! She did remarkabley well on her APGAR score which is rare for babies that were having heart rate problems. She was breathing and she ate perfectly right from the first try. She had beautiful color and she wasn't puffy or cone-headed or anything!

OH I forgot to say that when she was being pulled out one of the nurses gasped "the cord is wrapped around her neck twice!" OH MY GoSH!!!! then I started bawling.

Anyway she was doing great, I was doped up on drugs and the hospital stay was AMAZING! We were really scared about having the baby here in Rock Springs vs going to Utah. But I'd stay here in a heart beat again! Not that I'm having any more kids. The nurses were amazing and the rooms were nice. We really didn't want to go home when we did. We should have stayed one more night. Oh well.

So Shellie was born on May 13th(yes lucky Friday) and she was 6 pounds 8.6 ounces and 19 inches long.

I saw my Doctor on Wednesday the following week and he explained to me what had happened. My placenta had detached from the uterine wall and it was causing me to hemmorhage. When this happened the oxygyn and food is cut off from baby. So that is what had started on Monday when my Doctor's nurse shrugged it off as being from sex. Even though I told her I had NEVER bled in this pregnancy, not even after the Dr checked me at 37 weeks. That was the second time that had brushed something off as not being a concern and it was something major. Good thing I didn't have my baby with them.

My beautiful mother rushed to be here with us on Friday and to watch Emry. She took such good care of all of us all week. I have never had so much good food! Em wasn't the best of boy while grandma was here but it was still worth it. She left Thursday night. Friday was my first day alone with the kids and I'd have to say Em was way more behaved. He was helpful. I was in a lot of pain but we made it through the day and the house was NOT destroyed. YAY!

Now Shellie is a week old and she is so much fun! She's a dream baby just like Emry was. She rarely cries. Like really I think we've heard it 3 times now. When we hear it we're all, was that her? YAY she makes sounds! She hasn't spit up yet and barely even burps for us. She's done it like 3 times, but not while we were trying to get her to do it. She eats about every 3-4 hours and has just started begging for it today. She's wanted to eat about every 2 hours. She prefers to be held over being put down. She'll wake up and say she's hungry then immediately go back to sleep as soon as she's in your arms. She hasn't needed a binky yet. YAY! She's a very alert kid. She loves to look around and stare at you. She smiles when Emry gives her kisses. which he does about a hundred times a day. She has beautiful dark hair and I'm estimating that her eyes will turn green. She is just perfect. I love my kids!

So long but that's all for now!

YEA BABY!!!

HAAHA ya you all thought I would be saying we finally had the baby but sadly I know she will be staying in. Even though I REALLY REALLY want her to come out and Wednesday would be perfect so if you could pray for that we'd appreciate it! HA

Anyway at the end of April a few of my girlfriends did a baby shower for me and it was so much fun! These are the only pictures I have since I didn't bring my camera.

This last weekend was my college graduation from Utah State University. It was a really long day but so much fun! We got lots of errands done including getting my ring fixed just in time for my hands to be so swollen I can no longer get it on and off :( We also went out to Golden Corral for lunch before hand since It's been Devin's choice for a long time now....someday I'll make it back to Iron Gate Grill...oh the monkey bread!

The best part of the whole day was Emry! My side finished reading their names but the other side was still going. Luckily I was on the very end of my row(good thing because the chairs were very close together and a 9 month pregnant lady would not have fit well next to all the Tongons surrounding me!)Anyway I told Dev he could let go of Emry and let him come to me because he of course was saying mom mom mom mom mom thee entire ceremony. He ran to me, it was so adorable. Jumped into my lap, gave a big hug, turned around and jumped off before I had time to catch him. I thought he was running back to daddy but at the last second he veered right and ran onto and across the stage!!! MY LITTLE GRADUATE! oh i almost died laughing as did thee entire front of the crowd. Seriosly the best part of the day. I love my little baby boy. Except he's not little anymore :(

That's all I can think of that's been happening.....next post will be welcoming our baby girl to this world!!!

36 Weeks and counting....

So I apparently suck at blogging and pictures. I just found Christmas pictures on my camera? Have a seriously been that busy or lazy? Anyway it was fun to go through all the video's and pictures of christmas and Emry's birthday and this Easter.

This was christmas making our first house together. Yes Devin put a snowmobile on the roof out of licorace. First he's carving them into pumpkins, then on my gingerbread houses next he'll be making birthday cakes!

Only picture I got with him looking at the camera. This the Easter egg hunt in Green River that was way crowded and Em got one egg before I stopped him from going into the crowd. I was terrified of him getting trampled by all the ADULTS pickin up the eggs! UGH

As I talked about before here is the crib we got because of the recall. I haven't decorated her room yet but at least it's painted and the crib is put together! Yes I did it ALL by myself too.

I was having a horrible day. Not just bad but the worst day I had had in months. Emry was frustrating me so much, my body hurt, I just wanted to cry and ended up yelling at the top of my lungs in the bathroom. Yes I scared Em and he came running to see if I was ok. Then hit me. BAD DAY!!! I finally got Em to go to sleep and laid down myself to take a much needed nap( I think I was at 60 hours of no sleep at this point), DING DONG! UGH I was soooo mad. it happened just when you are about to be dead asleep so of course you can't go back to sleep. I didn't get it and ended up talking to my sister who told me I should go check the door. I did and this is what I found....

She sent me tulips! No she didn't predict that I was going to have a horrible day that day it just happened to be perfect! That's why we're sisters and best friends. So I cried and it made the day a little better, well until Emry woke up and proceeded to hit and kick me and make life more miserable anyway he knew how. Oh well I love my tulips!!!!

Emry running across Grandma Shinrock's yard on Easter morning. It took a lot of convincing to keep him picking up his eggs and treats. He really just wanted to play play play. We celebrated Easter in Utah this year with my mom. It was fun and Devin and I were able to spend Saturday together for our Anniversary(sealing). We went to Draper temple, Ikea, Texas Roadhouse, and a few more errands. The day was VERY VERY long but worth it to spend that much time alone with Devin.

I am 34 weeks in this picture. She has dropped drastically since this picture. I still feel huge! I am now 36 weeks. 3 Weeks to go. We're inducing on May 20th in Utah. I can't wait. Yes I am literally counting the days and marking them off on my calendar. We have had a lot of things we've been trying to get done. Now that sledding season is over, Devin has been able to get a few things done on the house which means I have been able to get more done on the house. I am really close to being able to decorate shellie's room, though I should probably do Emry's first. We have a little more painting to do upstairs and a ton of touch ups and then all our big projects will be done! We're not messing with finishing the yard this year,. Devin build a makeshift fence to keep the kids on the grass and in eyesight when they play outside. That's all I care about. We're excited for more sun, and less wind so we can roast marshmellows and enjoy our backyard. Someday we'll have a BBQ grill.....

Coming up is my baby shower this weekend(Thank you Ali and Leslie!) and the next weekend is graduation in Logan. After that it's two weeks of torure of nothing to do but wait for baby day.

I think I have caught myself up now(as far as I remember) which isn't much these days!

Something NEW!

So I just had to relay my good news! So last summer we bought a used crib at a garage sale and slowly have been sanding it so we can restain in NOT RED. After about 24 hours of work put into this crib, I decided maybe I should look up recalls again. Yup it was recalled! Oh so much work down the drain! BUT I was able to take it to Walmart and after hours of pleading with them they exchanged it for a new crib. It's not quite as nice as the one we got at the garage sale but holy cow its new!!! I don't have to paint it or sand it or do anything!!! We haven't had anything at all new for babies(except Emry's Mattress) so its sooooooo nice to have something pretty and new for once! Once I have it put together I'll start decorating Shellie's room and get some pictures up!!! YAYYYY!!!

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

So I have needed to update my blog for while with something interesting but I just don't seem to really want to be on the computer much but here you go. We've had a few things going on recently but nothing too interesting. We'll start with some pictures:

Daddy and Emry goofing around after church. Daddy is so proud of his thug man! This picture is growing on me!

We got to celebrate Emry's birthday with some of his friends. He did great at blowing out his candle!!

This picture seems really weird but Emry is giving baby sister Shellie(we think her name is) kisses. It was really cute and I look really really big here. I was probably 29 weeks here.

This last weekend I was able to do the Bountiful Baskets that a friend told me about. This is the food we got for 15 bucks! I was impressed. I have already used the spinach and tried the grapefruit and mango. Things I would never ever buy or normally try. I'm excited to make the asparagus for Em tonight and as soon as I remember to buy flour at the store I'll be making zuccini bread. Hopefully we like it. It was also fun to go and volunteer at the event. I have NEVER gone to do something by myself since Emry was born! It was nice to be alone and actually doing something none errand like!

IT'S COMING!

May 7th I finally get to graduate from college FOR REAL!!! I finished my class yesterday though classes don't end until May 5th. I am anxiously awaiting my diploma to be in my hand!!!

Devin and I celebrated 3 years yesterday! We went out to our favorite restaurant on Saturday and spent the whole day doing fun things for us and Emry. It was AMAZING to actually have Devin home on a Saturday! I can't wait for snow season to go away, granted it means that he'll have to start working on trucks and I STILL won't see him but at least he won't be gone alllllll day long hours away!

In the next couple weeks we'll celebrate our Temple anniversary as well. Hopefully we'll actually get to go since we pretty much haven't gotten to go since that day. My awesome friends are throwing me a baby shower at the end of April so I have that to look forward to as well. Then Graduation then I'll be staying the final 2 weeks of pregnancy in Utah. We're inducing on May 20th! It's nice to have a day to look forward to! I am 32 weeks almost right now. Hopefully it goes by fast!

Oh I was able to get Emry's room all painted up this last week too. It literally was a 5 day project for me. Man were my arms hurting after all the taping and prep work, then the actual painting. Now we just have to finish the crib and the one hundred little craft projects on my list and we'll be ready for baby! That's all for now....
